Work Training Program Benefits

Through By the Water Thrift, adults with disabilities in Michigan gain real-world experience that prepares them for future employment:​

Customer Interaction

Participants develop customer service skills, learning to engage with the public and answer questions.​

Leadership Development

Teammates are provided with practical hands-on experience to develop problem solving, goal setting & team coordination skills.

Team Collaboration

Working alongside peers and staff, participants practice communication and teamwork in a professional setting.​

To provide programs, services, and activities to consumers which will assist them in obtaining independence, employability, and integration into the community. We support our mission by offering programs and services which foremost promote consumer choice, provide opportunities to enrich consumer lives, promote independence, and community integration.​

Community Impact

By the Water Thrift is more than just a store; it’s a community initiative that connects people with opportunities and support:​

Supporting Independence: This program provides a pathway to independence, helping individuals with disabilities in Michigan St. Clair County to gain skills and confidence .in their abilities.​


Partnerships: Collaborations with local organizations and chambers of commerce expand resources and enhance the training program.​


Volunteer and Donation Opportunities: Community members can support the program by volunteering or donating items, directly contributing to its mission.​

The store also features handmade items crafted by participants from our St. Clair County Life Skills programs, including Blue Water Choices, Bright Futures, and Capac Opportunities.
